Hart began playing guitar at 10 years old, keyboards shortly thereafter, and bass guitar at 15. His main influences on guitar are David Gilmour, Steven Wilson, Adam Jones, and Alex Lifeson. Hart joined amphoteric in 1999 as lead guitarist and songwriter. He became lead singer of the band in 2002, with the departure of singer Tim Thompson. He has also produced albums for amphoteric and local musicians.

Hart exclusively uses Paul Reed Smith guitars, Ibanez bass guitars, Bad Cat guitar amps, Marshall bass amps, Avatar Cabinets, Korg keyboards and D'Addario strings.
